In general, 19th and 20th Century American landscapes achieved strong results and American 19th Century still lifes were particularly strong; European 19th Century romantic paintings were mixed with both strong and moderate results; Old Master paintings were represented by examples of moderate quality and achieved appropriate results. A world auction record for work by a 19th century artist indigenous to Maine (Charles Codman) was established at $24,150. Actual results include a 15% premium paid by the buyer up to and including $50,000 plus 10% of the hammer price on any amount over $50,000, as in the case of the small oil by Winslow Homer illustrated below.
