The property of a Maine library since at least 1925 along
with a Frederick Butman,
a William Marple, and a William Hahn, and, like them, hung high on the library
walls
and probably not moved in 75 years or more, this fine landscape appears to be
in
mint or very nearly mint condition. (It needs a surface cleaning.)
Given that, with the
exception of the Butman, which has an apparently Alpine subject, all the
library
paintings (including a large, important Thomas Hill sold by Barridoff
Galleries for
the library a number of years ago) are of the American West,
this Hill is likely to be Western as well.
