This canvas, apparently untouched and, although protected by old glass, somewhat
yellowed and in need of cleaning, remains in its excellent original frame, which is also 
in fine condition.  It has descended in one family until now since at least early in the 
20th century.  It is a moody, touching painting, which, in person, offers contrasts of light 
and dark that approach a very pleasing abstraction. This is a particularly lovely and poetic 
work by Harpignies.
