Afternoon light, the boats and buildings glowing at the end of a summer
afternoon on the North Shore, provides the subject matter for as
beautiful a harbor scene as Peterson ever painted. This
gouache/watercolor is so rich it appears at first to be an oil; and the
colors are used in such an abstract manner that the viewer barely
notices he or she is being manipulated - in the very nicest way - by far
more than the appealing subject matter.
